Why Everyone Should Visit Bimini Bahamas
Should I Visit Bimini Bahamas?
Yes, Of course you should visit Bimini Bahamas.
Bimini Bahamas is a very small, quaint Bahama island. It is tropical paradise, with clean white sandy beaches and beautiful colored waters.
The residents are friendly and not trying to sell to you as you walk down the street.
You can enjoy the free local beaches, observe the oceans creatures, try your hand in the casino or just enjoy some authentic Bahamas food.
Where is Bimini Bahamas?
Bimini Bahamas is one of the first Bahama islands you reach from the United States approximately 50 miles off the coast of Miami.
How to Get to Bimini Bahamas?
You can fly to Bimini Bahamas Airport code (BIM), the airport is located in South Bimini.
You can take a ferry from Fort Lauderdale on Balearia Caribbean Ferry. The trip takes approximately 2 hours. You can find more information about the ferry by visiting the website: https://www.baleariacaribbean.com
Can I get to Bimini Bahamas by a Cruise Ship?
Yes, there are several cruise lines vising Bimini. Currently Carnival Cruise Line, Virgin Cruise Line and Occasionally Celebrity Cruise Line will port at Bimini.
A cruise is a great way to explore and enjoy visiting Bimini Bahamas. You are at port with plenty of time to get a taste of what the island has to offer.
You are given plenty of opportunities to use the beaches, taste the local food and snorkel all in a cruise port stop in Bimini.
If coming in by a cruise ship – be prepared it is a very small port. The Ferry shares the same port area at Bimini.
As you walk down the pier you will be able to see the other side of the island. It is that quaint of a location.
How far is the beach from the cruise terminal?
Free and easy access to beaches is another great reason to visit Bimini.
To reach the public beach, you just walk about 10 minutes straight down the pier. The public beach is the 1st sandy opening on the right.
The beach is free, but chairs and umbrellas are not. You can rent chairs and umbrellas from the rental stand as you enter the beach.
This beach over the last few months has made some improvements, a few months ago there were scrub trees between the beach and the pier, now this is wide open.
As tourism increases, I believe Bimini will begin to continue to make improvements for the cruise day guest.
The other free beach is Eagle beach – to reach Eagle beach you just keep walking straight and when you see the water on the other side you are at Eagle beach.
How to Get Around Bimini Bahamas
Getting around Bimini is super easy. The entire island is about 7 miles long. Instead of hitting the gym – you could take a nice walk around the island.
Not into walking?
If you are getting off the cruise you have an option to catch the free shuttle. The shuttle had 3 stops all going out from the pier to the left side of the island where a local told me was all resort area.
The shuttle stopped at the casino, Fisherman’s Village and The Resorts World beach club.
Should I Take a Taxi?
If you take a private taxi (cost was $5 per person, each way) it will take you to the right side of the island where the locals live.
There is a public beach there and I did not see a difference between the paid taxi to the beach or walking to the one at the end of the pier.
If you want more than a beach then the $5 is worth the cost, as there are local restaurants and a straw market for your shopping pleasure.
Rent a Golf Cart in Bimini Bahamas
The island is the perfect size to explore and get around on a golf cart. The streets are narrow and the golf carts are the perfect size to get easy parking at the local beaches, restaurants and local happenings.
You can rent golf carts at Fisherman’s Village – cruisers this is a stop on the Tram.

Which is Better island to visit in the Bahamas – Bimini or Nassau
Bimini definitely has a remote island charm. If you are looking for a relaxing and quiet place to visit then this is a definite stop. The small population of people living on Bimini also makes it very attractive as the beaches were clean, the residents were friendly.
Whereas Nassau, is loud, and busy with people. Not to mention a ton of cruise travelers visiting the island daily. If you are looking for noisy, crowed streets then Nassau may be your preferred stop.
Is Bimini Safe?
Bimini has reportedly low crime in the statistics of crime for the Bahamas. With its small population, I felt very safe walking around the island.
Travelers should always be aware of pick pockets and thieves from hotel rooms. You should never leave valuables out no matter where you travel.
