Bimini Bahamas – Snorkel with Sharks

Snorkeling With Reef Sharks in Bimini Bahamas!

Snorkeling with Black Tip Reef Shark Excursion

On this trip I opted to go Snorkeling with Sharks in Bimini Bahamas. And to me more specific I purchased this excursion to snorkel with the Black Tip Reef Sharks through Carnival Cruises.

I just knew this was going to be a great adventure.  We met on the ship and we were walked out by carnival excursion team to the meeting area on the pier.

We met our guide and walked into towards Eagle Beach. There we signed a waiver form – I guess if we got eaten by a shark they were not liable.

We boarded the boat, and took our 30 minute ride to the snorkel area. The staff fitted us for flippers, snorkel mask, and a life jacket.

The life jacket you had to inflate by pushing down on the mouth nozzle and blowing into the mouth piece. It was easy to do. To put on the life jacket, you simply put it over your head, pull the strap that is on the back lower section between your legs – buckle and pull tight. Then the middle upper strap wraps from the back to the front – buckle and pull tight.

Let’s Snorkel with the Sharks
Time to Jump In!

Ok so now the fun begins, once you get to the reef – they tell you to jump in. Luckily at the time I did not think too much about it, and I just jumped in.

I admit I am not much of a snorkeler, but I can float with the best of them. So, I did what I do best, I floated on my back until I got my snorkel gear in place, flipped on over and floated.

Once I got used to the concept of breathing while my face was in the water, all was good. Not only good, it was amazing, there I am floating above these beautiful sea creatures that cause panic and fear in most people.

Just Keep Breathing

There was several sharks just hanging in their natural habitat on the reef. Occasionally one would come by me off my right or left side that I was not expecting and gave me a few quick heartbeats, but all in all they are just swimming.

Time to Get Back on Board!

They are beautiful creatures when they are not on a feeding frenzy. After about 40 minutes in the water it was time to get back on the boat.

One thing I did observe was the more snorkelers that got out of the water, the more sharks began to show up at the reef.

Bimini Bahamas

Once everyone was safely aboard the ship, one of the crew was splashing his feet in the water. It was like he rang the dinner bell – sharks, sharks and more sharks appeared near the boat.

It was feeding time!

The crew tossed over some fish food for the sharks. This tour is done several times a day and although the sharks are in the wild, like anything else, they know when and where to find the next meal.

Would you Recommend Snorkeling with the Sharks?

Absolutely! This was a great adventure and I highly recommend this tour. Total tour was for 2 hours.

After the excursion was over there was still plenty of time to see the island, lay at the beach, or enjoy the local foods!

At least once in your lifetime you should try Snorkeling with the Black Tip Reef Sharks in Bimini Bahamas!
